St Leger: Our trip to the last classic of the season

What is the St Leger?

Britain's oldest classic, first run in 1776, the St Leger is the final stage in a classic campaign, though we haven't had a Triple Crown winner since Nijinsky in 1970. Devised by Doncaster native Anthony St Leger, it sees a 1m6f trip: the longest of the three Triple Crown components.

What's the itinerary?

Importantly, though the St Leger itself is on Saturday, the St Leger Festival runs over four days, with Friday's feature the Doncaster Cup, and Sunday seeing the ever popular 'Leger Legends' race, where retired jockeys return to ride. We put you up in the Hilton Garden Inn. Breakfast and racing tickets are included.

What happened in 2023?

With Desert Hero entered, this year saw a visit from his owners: TM The King and Queen. Desert Hero stayed on well to finish third, behind our ambassador, Frankie Dettori, on his Farewell Tour. It was Ryan Moore and Aidan O'Brien who took the spoils with Continuous: O'Brien's seventh victory in the race, and Moore's third.

Where will you be staying?

The Hilton Garden Inn is Doncaster's newest hotel, and involves a racecourse commute of minutes, with many rooms looking out across the track. Conveniently, the hotel also lies just ten minutes from Doncaster's town centre.
