The last section of the year is, undoubtedly, a huge time for racing. The Arc de Triomphe and Champions Day serve as end of season celebrations on the flat, and are an opportunity to see some of the very best horses of the year, honour the last rides of treasured icons, and welcome in an exciting new generation, with eyes already looking to next year. The champions are crowned, the turf season goes on its winter hiatus. But it’s not the end. International race days, big nights on the all-weather... as well, of course, as prominent jump meetings, provide opportunities to enjoy a grand day out.
It might be a bit chilly, but it does give you a chance to try out your new winter looks! In the United States, the Breeders Cup and Phoenix Cup are the pinnacles of their racing scene. Meanwhile, in Australia, there’s the ever-competitive Melbourne Cup. Then, there’s the Japan Cup, and Dubai’s racing gets going in the lead up to March’s Dubai World Cup. Follow Europe’s top jockeys to new surroundings, enjoying an international race day experience at its very best. While the turf season may be done and dusted, the all-weather scene is still full of top experiences.
Many of the best jockeys made their name during the winter season, from Derby winners Richard Kingscote and Adam Kirby, to David Probert and Luke Morris. The all-weather campaign can be a great way to learn about the upcoming turf season, too, with several promising 2-year-olds getting their winter run outs. The highlight of the jumping season, of course, is towards March and April, with the illustrious Cheltenham Festival and Grand National. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t good races throughout the season. From the iconic King George at Kempton, to the Welsh Grand National at Chepstow, there’s plenty to chew on.
