Injured Jockeys Fund: An introduction from Ross Hollinworth and Glenn Reed

Updated: Feb 16, 2023

Ross (lead clinician): We rehabilitate apprentice jockeys, professional jockeys and former jockeys, all of whom come to us with injuries minor and major. We also support the local racing community, and offer classes in mental and financial health. It's a particular bonus to have nutritional support, offering supplements and so on, as weight management is, of course, so important for riders. Very few sports have this level of service, particularly when you consider our work is funded by donations from the general public.

Glenn (strength conditioning coach): My job is to look after end stage rehabilitation, engaging closely with our team on the clinical wing. I also work with current jockeys to push their performance, making them more resilient when they have a fall... which will inevitably happen, as the odds simply aren't in their favour. If jockeys need help around us, we have a liaison team around the country, and we even organise holidays to assist with jockey's wellbeing. For the current jockeys, it can be hard to find the time, but they appreciate what we do at centres in Newmarket, Lambourn, Malton and Taunton.
