What are the European Championships?
Underway once every two years, this 4* event sees participants from across the continent, and from Great Britain and Ireland. From Switzerland in 2021, the competition moved this year to the Haras National du Pin, France's national stud in the Normandy countryside. Eventing Breaks clients were treated to a luxury hotel stay, and up-close access to the sporting action. The first championships were held at Badminton in 1953, where native Great Britain took gold.
What happened in 2023's edition?
Stunning performances from Ros Canter on Lordships Gruffalo saw Great Britain occupy the top spot, while Germany claimed silver, and France bronze. The 2023 result means Great Britain have now racked an impressive 42 gold medals in the competition's history, and Canter and teammate Kitty King this year occupied first and second position in the individual rankings.
