The History

Go racing at Limerick Racecourse for a great day out. Whether it’s a family occasion, a corporate event, social outing or you’re a serious punter looking for a great day’s racing; Limerick Races is the place to be. You never know who you’d meet. The going’s great at Limerick Races.

The atmosphere really has to be experienced to be believed. A day at the races is one of top things to do in Limerick whether you’re a local or a tourist. The unique atmosphere means we have loyal customers returning year after year, for fun, fashion, and having a punt of a few favourites.

Horse Racing in Limerick goes back hundreds of years; the locals have always liked the excitement, thrills and spills of racing. The Racecourse has had a new lease of life since 2001.

Flat or National Hunt, our Racecourse is a serious test for Horse and Jockey. The track is wide, with an inside track for hurdles, and with fences that can be moved there’s always fresh ground.

Still being developed and well on target to become a Grade 1 track, it’s a brilliant track for a novice chaser, and it suits stayers too.

The back straight has a tough 20 metre rise. The home straight features a decline as the field swings round the last bend, with a testing climb to the finish post.

Limerick Races has quickly become popular with trainers, owners and jockeys. Ruby Walsh described it: “It’s a good track, I love riding here when it’s soft. Great place to start a novice you start in the corner at the bottom of the back straight and you’ve a line of five fences in front of you to jump. In the summer time. you really have to jump to win around here over fences. If you don’t jump it’s not a place to be.”
