Overview


The Grand National is the most iconic race in the world and once again, in April 2023, the world will stop in its tracks as over 65,000 people at Aintree and 600 million people around the globe will tune in to see who will become the latest horse to be written into the history books alongside the likes of Red Rum, Foinavon and Aldaniti.

The Grand National is so much more than just a race; the elegance, anticipation and excitement that the crowd gives off come to symbolise the drama that unfolds around 2 circuits of the Liverpool track. The thrill of the big race is unbelievable when witnessed in person, and it seems that year after year, the excitement and quality of the event seems to grow.

But the excitement isn’t just limited to Saturday, he opening day of the Festival on Thursday and Ladies Day on Friday are both home to no fewer than 4 Grade 1 races! With many winners from the Cheltenham Festival making their way to the northwest, this really is an event not to be missed.

Where to be for the best views

Festival Zone

This popular enclosure is the largest and most atmospheric enclosure at Aintree throughout the three-day meeting, with access to view the Parade Ring, Winner's Enclosure atmospheric Red Rum lawn. Ticket holders also have access to the Irish Bar, live music in the Aintree Pavilion, tote betting, plus big screen viewing. The Aintree mound provides viewing of the closing stages of every race.

Earl of Derby Terrace

Aintree's newest grandstands offer terraces closer to the action than anywhere else on the racecourse. Located either side of the horse walk, witness the colourful preparations of horses and jockeys at the Grand National start line, and be one of the first to cheer a winner on its way back to the Winner's Enclosure. Lord Sefton Terrace

Aintree's newest grandstands offer terraces closer to the action than anywhere else on the racecourse. Queen Mother Roof

Close to the Parade Ring and Winner's Enclosure and adjacent to the Red Rum Garden, these seats are at the heart of the racing action, with the winner's post directly opposite and with the added luxury of covered seating, raceday hats are protected from the elements. Princess Royal Seats & Gallery

Recent enhancements to Princess Royal Seats will make this enclosure one of the most sought after places on the racecourse for the Grand National meeting. The extended and refurbished lounge with Champagne and Seafood concessions together with a full bar will make this an experience to remember. Princess Royal seats offer close up views of the closing stages of every race from your own reserved seat. The Sundew Champagne Bar will remain open for an additional ONE hour at the end of the day leaving time to celebrate the day with friends. Dress Codes

What to wear

Although there is no official dress code, smart is preferable and is often adopted. Aintree is a spectacle of colour throughout the year, with many using their trip to the racecourse as an opportunity to showcase their favourite raceday outfits. Hats are optional too, but are frequently worn. Sports clothes and fancy dress are not permitted for The Randox Health Grand National Festival.

Directions

By Rail

The easiest way to reach Aintree is by train. The nearest mainline station to Aintree is Liverpool Lime Street. Liverpool Central Station is just a short walk from Lime Street, where you can catch a train to Aintree. Aintree Station is directly opposite the racecourse, where regular trains run every 15 minutes on racedays (more frequently during The Randox Health Grand National Festival).

By Bus

Aintree can be reached by bus on services: 300, 311, 345, 350 and 351 both to and from Liverpool. From Bootle New Strand take route 61A. For further information on bus routes, contact Traveline on 0871 200 22 33 or visit www.merseytravel.gov.uk

By Car

Please note that a toll applies to the Mersey Gateway bridge which is to be paid before use in both directions to avoid a fine.

From South: Leave M6 at J21A and join M62 west. Leave M62 at J6 to join M57, follow signs for races.

From North: Leave M6 at J26 and join M58, follow signs for races.

From Mersey Tunnels: Follow signs for Preston, then for A59, then signs for races.

The main entrance to the racecourse via Grand National Avenue is just off Ormskirk Road (A59). Please use this entrance for conference and events. For Sat Nav users, please enter the postcode L9 5AS

Parking

There is parking for up to 1,800 cars.

Car parking is available for free at Aintree on non Grand National meetings.

For the Randox Health Grand National Festival car parking is limited and must be purchased in advance.
