The National Spirit Hurdle
Head to Fontwell Park for the Richest Race of the Year: The National Spirit Hurdle!
The richest and most prestigious race in the Fontwell Calendar will be run for the 54th time on Sunday 24 February, join them and be apart of the tradition.
Fontwell's richest race is sure to attract some of the country's finest talent. This £80,000, Grade 2 race originated 53 years ago and is named after the dual winning champion hurdler, National Spirit. After the prize fund increased by a further £30,000 in 2016, the National Spirit Hurdle has continued to attract some of the best horses with excitement beginning to build for months in advance! Recent winners include Old Guard, Lil' Rockerfeller, Black Corton!

Where to be for the best views
A ticket for the Premier Enclosure allows access to all public areas of the racecourse including the ground floor of the Premier Grandstand. The stand has superb facilities including modern bars, food outlets, betting outlets (Tote and bookmakers), cafe style seating, seats on the terrace over-looking Fontwell Gardens and plenty of large flat screen TVs. There are also seats on the terracing overlooking the course. Premier Enclosure admission also allows access to the Winners’ Enclosure and Parade Ring, all racecourse bars and catering outlets, Fontwell House gardens, the centre course picnic area and three viewing Grandstands.
A ticket for the Paddock Enclosure allows access to all public areas of the racecourse apart from the new Premier Grandstand, Fontwell House and its associated gardens.
How to find us
A shuttle bus runs from Barnham station to Fontwell Park on racedays from two hours prior to the first race and immediately after the last.
The nearest station is Barnham, trains run regularly from London Victoria, Portsmouth and Brighton. Trains also run direct to Barnham from Southampton.
With prior permission, helicopters can land on the course on racedays.
Fontwell Park is situated on the A27/A29 roundabout between Chichester and Arundel. Access to our main car park on racedays is from Fontwell Avenue (A29 towards Bognor Regis), the entrance is 300 yards from the roundabout on the right-hand side. Sat Nav: BN18 0SY (Main Car Park) BN18 0SX (Centre Course).
Please use the postcode BN18 0SY for the main free car park and turnstiles area. The postcode BN18 0SX will take you to the centre course car park where there is a £5 charge to park.
What to wear
The relaxed nature at Fontwell Park carries through to our requirements for dress code. Most importantly, please remember to dress for the weather because Fontwell Park holds race meetings all year round and conditions can vary. However, we do hold a smart casual policy for The Premier Enclosure and Hospitality suites.
