Directions

By Train

Trains from London to Chelmsford run from Liverpool Street station regularly or the Stansted Express train to Stansted Airport, again from London Liverpool Street station is also an option.

By Bus

Chelmsford Bus station is less than a two minute walk from Chelmsford railway station. At present there is a limited shuttle service between the Castle bus stop in Great Leighs and Chelmsford City Racecourse, serving the no. 70 and no. 352 bus. It’s recommended contacting the racecourse prior to your visit to check availability of the shuttle service.

By Road

Chelmsford City Racecourse is situated in Great Leighs, 5 miles north of Chelmsford in the heart of Essex. Surrounded by picturesque countryside, the 150+ acre racecourse site has excellent transport links via the A131, A120 and M11.

Dress Codes

What to wear

Grandstand & Paddock Admission – Informal dress code in operation, however we do ask that the following are not worn: - Beach flip flops - Team shirts - Sports shorts - Swimwear

Fancy dress is permitted, however the racecourse reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone deemed to be dressed inappropriately or likely to cause offence.

Fairwood Restaurant – Smart Casual dress, no trainers are permitted, or those items listed above.

Club Restaurant – Smart Attire. Gentlemen are required to wear collared shirt, jacket and tie. Ladies should dress for a smart occasion. Smart jeans are allowed however they must not be ripped or torn. We ask that you kindly do not wear trainers or shorts (to include tailored shorts).

Racecourse Information

The History

A focal point of the Essex countryside, Chelmsford City Racecourse provides top class all weather racing with a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The polytrack surface runs in a left-handed oval, with even furlong and one mile chutes and is lit by bespoke Champagne Flute shaped floodlights. The track is firmly in the top ten in the prize money tables throughout the whole of the UK and offers thrilling racing with runners from many of the top trainers.

The one enclosure style ensures that all race-goers can take advantage of the access to the parade ring and viewing terraces. The Fairwood restaurant offers a sumptuous buffet meal with a bistro-type atmosphere, open to all ages.

For those guests wanting a VIP experience, the adults only Club Restaurant serves a la carte cuisine in exquisite surroundings with an almost panoramic view of the course. This area encompasses the Members’ Lounge with a dress code in operation.

For guests looking for a more relaxed day out, the racecourse offers a variety of packages to suit any occasion.
