Saturday 2nd November - Saturday 9th November 2019

The Melbourne Cup Carnival is a truly spectacular event, taking place from the first Saturday of November to the second Saturday of November each year with a race day being held every other day. The whole week is an incredible spectacle which should not be missed with each raceday bringing a different crowd of people and different atmosphere.

The four race days are the AAMI Victoria Derby Day, Lexus Melbourne Cup Day, Kennedy Oaks Day, and Stakes Day.

The feature race day of the week is the Lexus Melbourne Cup, held each year on the first Tuesday of November, the greatest thoroughbreds from around the world gather at Flemington and battle it out for a stake of the $6.2-million prize money and to cement their names in history.

Dress Codes

What to wear

There is no dress code for general admission. For dining, enclosures and corporate events as well as any members and guests the dress code is: Gentlemen are required to wear suits of tailored slacks (tailored chinos acceptable), sportcoat or blazer, plus tie and dress shoes. Ladies are expected to maintain a suitable standard of racewear attire.

Directions

Trains on Race day Special trains run direct to Flemington Racecourse on race days departing from Flinders street station and/or Southern cross station, stopping at North melbourne station, then express to Flemington Racecourse. Arrival and departure times published on the on the race day page 2 weeks prior to events.

Trains on non racedays Train to Newmarket station then either walk (10 mins) or take no.57 tram to flemington drive (stop 30)

Buses Catch route 472 bus from Williamstown, Footscray or Moonee ponds to Fisher parade, enter Flemington racecourse via Riverbank entrance. Alternatively catch route 404 bus from Footscray or Moonee Ponds to Smithfield Road, enter Flemington racecourse via stables drive entrance.
